In October of 1979 the Brooklea Golf and Country Club was purchased. This was the beginning of a twenty-year period of intense change and improvement to the Brooklea golf course.

In 1984 Michael served under George MacDonald on the Papal Committee that organized the 1984 John Paul 11 visit to the Martyrs Shrine.
In the spring of 1984 Michael became President of the Park Villa Motor Hotel Inc. In the summer of 1984 he completed the purchase of the Edwards property for the south course at Brooklea and started the approvals process for the construction of an additional nine hole Championship golf course.

The choice of Dunc McClaren as The Midland Rotary Club Trail chair assured the success of this project.
